“Turnkey” gets used loosely in interior design, so it’s worth being specific about what it actually covers before you commit to an engagement.
What turnkey typically covers
Design and layout planning, material and finish sourcing, execution coordination with vendors and contractors, and a final walkthrough before handover — with one team accountable for each stage rather than you coordinating separately with a designer and a contractor.
How it differs from design-only engagements
A design-only engagement ends at drawings and specifications; you then source materials and manage execution yourself or with a separate contractor. Turnkey carries the project through to a finished, handed-over space.
What to confirm with your designer upfront
Ask specifically what’s included and excluded — civil work, electrical, plumbing, furniture, styling — since “turnkey” scope varies between studios. Get it in writing before the project starts.
